Master’s Degrees in Mathematics, and Industrial Maths & Statistics combined with a long career in the Telecommunications industry have made Dhian a leading authority in Systems Reliability Management (SRM) techniques and their implications for both business and the “not for profit sector.”
System and component reliability first came to the fore in 1982, with Electronic Components. This resulted in Dhian developing the BT Handbook of Reliability Data, now a standard industry tool throughout the world for reliability prediction. His rapidly developing expertise in Reliability Analysis was also applied to the spares provisioning policy for Digital Exchanges, saving BT almost £100 Million.
The tools of SRM were refined still further in the high pressure environment of MOD projects, and before leaving BT to set up Reliability Networking, he was working on the Broadband Strategic Model, providing technical support on Reliability and Operational/Support cost modelling.
Through Rel-Net, Dhian made the Systems Reliability Management tools developed across reliability-critical projects available to a wider range of organizations. He provided consultancy and training in reliability and business resilience, including contracts for Tech Mahindra and BT covering voice and data communications, business continuity, OSS reliability and resilience, and long-term BT 21CN availability and resilience programmes.
Since joining the Institute of Directors in July 2015, Dhian has contributed to projects in Rainwater Harvesting and Climate Control. More recently, Dhian approached Professor Erwin Reisner, Professor of Energy and Sustainability and Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies, about deploying a solar-powered reactor developed by University of Cambridge researchers.
The reactor captures carbon dioxide directly from the air and uses sunlight to convert it into sustainable fuel. Its potential applications include fuels for transport, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, as well as energy production in remote or off-grid locations.
Dhian is coordinating an Institute of Directors initiative to explore using this technology to address air pollution in Delhi and have contacted Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa to help identify a solution acceptable to all parties.

Ø Developed the BT Handbook of Reliability Data, now used worldwide by the telecommunications industry for reliability prediction.
Ø Developed and implemented generic standards, including GS5, the Generic Standard for Reliability.
Ø Authored a book on reliability published as eight separate practical guides.
International Representation and Business Development
Ø Represented the International Telecommunication Union, delivering Systems Reliability Management seminars to India’s Department of Telecommunications.
Ø Established relationships with joint-venture partners and identified opportunities in India’s telecommunications sector.
Ø Represented BT on the EURESCOM project.
Leadership, Consultancy and Training
Ø Led bid support for DFTS and Home Office contracts valued at £2.5 billion.
Ø Advised BT on quality and reliability, helping ensure that equipment met specified performance targets.
Ø Led a reliability team that received recognition from the Government National Accounts and the Civil Aviation Authority.
